STH 26 Wetland Investigation, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin

STH 26 Wetland Investigation, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin
R.A. Smith National completed a wetland delineation along an approximately 17-mile stretch of STH 26 from Cattagarus Road to CTH FF in Fond du Lac County, Wis. The wetland delineation was performed to identify the proximity and extent of wetlands within the project corridor in association with road improvements along this highway. Wetland Delineation is unique for WisDOT highway projects because wetland impacts must be mitigated based on plant community type and must follow the WisDOT’s Wetland Mitigation Banking Technical Guidelines.

During the STH 26 project, a total of 21 wetlands were identified, delineated and characterized based on plant community type. The project work took place in November of 2011, May of 2012 and August of 2013, in association with various planning phases of the project. The wetland delineation consisted of a map review followed by several site visits to delineate the on-site wetlands and waterway. The fieldwork documented the presence of hydrophytic vegetation, wetland hydrology and hydric soil indicators outlined in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE) 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual, Technical Report Y-87-1 (1987) and subsequent guidance documents.
