Watertown Bypass Roundabouts - Watertown, Wisconsin

R.A. Smith National was responsible for conventional survey control and the static 3D laser scanning of five roundabouts located along the STH 26 Watertown Bypass. The roundabouts were surveyed and scanned as a part of an oversized / overweight (OSOW) accommodation study, in which very accurate as-built 3D surfaces of each of the roundabouts needed to be created to enable virtual turning simulations of a custom built 3D model of a specific OSOW lowboy in the Autoturn Pro 3D software.

Surveying related services included establishing conventional survey control, by means of GPS and a conventional level loop, the integration of scan targets on this control, static 3D laser scanning data capture (for hard surfaces), conventional topographic data capture (for all grassy and landscaped areas), point cloud registration and quality control, data fusion, and 3D surface creation.
