As part of our advanced technology services, R.A. Smith National offers bathymetric surveying, enabling us to study the underwater depth of ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. Our survey staff utilizes our hydrone (remote control survey boat) to collect underwater data. The hydrone is equipped with a multibeam echo sounder – a sonar system that emits sound waves that bounce off the bottom of a water body and are returned to a receiver, enabling the user to determine water depth.
The ability to complete bathymetric surveys is another step forward for R.A. Smith National in providing advanced technology services as well as enhancing our watershed planning, design and construction services.

Survey data was collected with the hydrone and echosounder for a periodic inspection of pond depth needed to maintain the pond’s performance at this residential subdivision.
KD Park Development, Kenosha County, Wisconsin
A bathymetric survey was instrumental in precisely mapping and understanding the lake bottom elevations needed to accurately site a boat landing location at KD Park. This survey effort was an important aspect of the master planning and design efforts that R.A. Smith National is coordinating with Kenosha County.
