Project Overview
raSmith provided construction services for this $6.9 million project that included the reconstruction of the WIS 60/CTH Y intersection, bridge reconditioning over Cedar Creek, and approximately seven miles of HMA paving. The existing intersection at WIS 60/CTH Y has a history of high-severity accidents and was replaced with a safer, more efficient roundabout.
During the project, the raSmith team noticed a redundancy error in the system. WisDOT followed raSmith’s recommended solution, resulting in approximately $140,000 in savings. This project savings, and others, enabled the team to add significant base patching to WIS 60 that will increase the highway’s life.
One of the biggest project challenges was coordination and communication between a large number of stakeholders including the Town of Cedarburg, Town of Jackson, Ozaukee County, and Washington County. raSmith provided the municipalities and residents with timely, accurate construction updates to keep the project moving smoothly and on schedule.
The WIS 60 improvements included widening the paved shoulders to six feet to accommodate bicycles and adding bypass lanes at intersecting roads to improve traffic flow and safety. Additionally, the work included various culvert replacements, reconditioning of minor intersections, curb and gutter, storm sewer, beam guard, and lighting.
