Project Overview
raSmith’s FAA Part 107 certified remote pilots used a UAS system to record video of vehicular traffic through a series of roundabouts located on CTH M (Lineville Road) between Belmont Road and Velp Avenue in the Village of Howard, Wisconsin. This specific stretch of CTH M is located directly north of a growing commercial corridor and directly south of a series of Howard-Saumico School District Schools, including Forest Glen Elementary School, Lineville Intermediate School and Bay Port High School.
The video was to be recorded during and around peak traffic volume, which mainly coincided with morning drop-off and afternoon pickup times for the schools to illustrate the building congestion. The video was used by Brown County to illustrate the growing traffic problems to local officials and stakeholders.
Challenges included coordination with local land owners, school officials, the Village of Howard and Village of Saumico Police Departments, and the Brown County Sherriff’s Department.
