Project Overview
Founded in 1982, Copart is a global leader in online car auctions, connecting over 750,000 buyers and sellers from over 200 locations worldwide. To support Copart’s growth, raSmith has provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, ecological services, and traffic engineering services for several prospective developments in Wisconsin. This particular 25-acre site, for which the firm provided site design and UAS services, is located off of 107th Street in Milwaukee. It features a 12,860-square-foot building, parking and drop lot for customer service and processing of newly arrived inventory, and a secured storage area for approximately 2,200 vehicles.
This project presented a variety of challenges. raSmith incorporated MMSD’s green infrastructure requirements, mitigated impacts to wetlands by designing the site to preserve and protect existing wetland areas to the maximum extent practicable, and collaborated with the owner of high-volume gas transmission lines adjacent to the site. The development features three wet detention ponds for stormwater management. Rain gardens were installed to capture the outfalls from each pond and to help meet the green infrastructure requirement.
