Project Overview
Built in 1857, the historic Foxtown Brewing company was formerly known as the Opitz Zimmerman Brewery — one of southeast Wisconsin’s oldest brewing buildings. The site features two levels of lager caves from the company’s early days of brewing production. As part of a redevelopment, the existing entry to the subterranean beer cave was redesigned using large limestone walls and steps to provide access on the east side of the building. The landscape architects and site planners at raSmith collaborated with the owner, architect, and development team to create several outdoor spaces, a beer garden and entertainment area, and a landscape that complements the historic character of the building and site. Additionally, raSmith performed 3D laser scanning of the interior and exterior of the existing structure, including the lager caves, to provide very accurate as-built data in preparation for this redevelopment.
This project received a 2020 Top Projects award from The Daily Reporter and a 2020 Real Estate Award from The Milwaukee Business Journal.
