We work on projects nationwide from our seven locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, and California.

Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from a U.S.-accredited college or university and coursework in civil engineering
- Zero to 4 years of experience working in similar civil engineering areas

We currently have an opening for a student to fill a summer 2025 intern position at our Brookfield, WI office (approximately 10 miles west of downtown Milwaukee). We are looking for students with an interest in gaining practical engineering experience from experienced project managers, engineers, and technicians through on-the-job training on real projects. During this time, you will be encouraged to hone your problem-solving abilities and develop technical skills.
Primary Responsibilities

Skills and requirements
- A Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from a U.S.-accredited college or university
- Professional engineer (P.E.) registration in Wisconsin
- Minimum of eight (8) years progressive experience in all aspects of civil engineering with at least 2 years of experience as a project manager or with manager-level responsibilities
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology and hydraulic software is preferred but is not a direct requirement

- Static and UAS-derived LiDAR data collection in both interior and exterior environments
- Assist with setting conventional survey control for static and UAS-derived LiDAR data collection efforts
- Process static LiDAR data sets including point cloud registration, QA/QC checks to survey control, and general preparation for data extraction
- Process UAS-derived imagery to orthophotography including QA/QC checks to survey control and general preparation for data extraction
- Process UAS-derived aerial LiDAR data sets including trajectory processing, QA/QC checks to survey control, point cloud data classification, and general preparation for data extraction
- Data extraction from orthophotography and point cloud data sets including 2D planimetric features, 3D topography, and BIM modeling (including architectural, structural, and MEP elements)
- Review assigned project files for necessary materials and information to carry out project scope and drafting tasks
- Provide thorough analysis of field notes, legal descriptions, title easements, design plans, utility plans, and construction layout notes

Skills and Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree in civil engineering is required; Masters of Science degree in civil engineering is preferred
- Ten (10) plus years of bridge design experience including structural design of local, highway, and interchange bridges and ancillary structures
- Wisconsin professional engineer licensure is required
- Strong knowledge of WisDOT Facilities Development Manual and BOS Bridge Manual including standards, specifications, and procedures
- Exposure to WisDOT BOS staff and WisDOT project development project managers is a plus
- Proficient in AASHTO LRFD design of bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other ancillary transportation structures
- Experience with bridge analysis and design software including MDX and LEAP Bridge Suite
- Experience as WisDOT Certified Bridge Inspector is a plus
- Structural design experience of buildings and related structures is a plus
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred

Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in structural or civil engineering from a U.S.-accredited college or university, and zero (0) to three (3) or more years of experience in the structural design of cold-formed steel building projects
- Knowledge of cold-formed steel design and light steel framing
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products; and working knowledge of AutoDesk Revit and AutoCAD programs
- Working knowledge of various structural analysis and design programs including CFS Designer and RISA

We currently have an opening for a student to fill a co-op position to begin in January 2025 and May 2025 at our Brookfield, WI office (approximately 10 miles west of downtown Milwaukee). We are looking for students with an interest in gaining practical engineering experience from experienced project managers, engineers, and technicians through on-the-job training on real projects. During this time, you will be encouraged to hone your problem-solving abilities and your develop technical skills.
Our co-op program consists of 3 co-op terms (summer can count as a term). raSmith co-ops receive extensive training and mentorship throughout their work terms. This program serves as a gateway to a full-time position with raSmith after graduation.
This rotational co-op will work in our municipal, construction, and transportation/traffic divisions. The student in this role will perform a variety of engineering tasks in each division to provide an understanding of that division's methods, practices, and programs.
Primary Responsibilities
Work tasks vary based on division but will include:
- Civil 3D design tasks to assist project engineers
- Field screenings including sewer and outfall monitoring
- Exhibit preparation
- Construction observation fieldwork
