Project Overview
Children’s Wisconsin is nationally recognized as one of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation. Sitting atop a large hill looking over the city of Delafield, the new two-story clinic now provides award-winning patient care to another Milwaukee suburb. However, to get that 30,000-square-foot facility perfectly situated on the hill, the engineering team at raSmith faced a lot of grading constraints. The peak of the hill actually had to be shaved off during construction.
Site engineering and landscaping plans required the tree line and earthwork be minimized during construction in order to highlight the site’s natural features. A regional pond infiltration basin provided a cost-effective solution for water quality and stormwater management. Amid the topography challenges and a tight construction timeframe, the clinic was successfully constructed on time.
