Project Overview
Recent development in the immediate area, including residential subdivisions and apartments, a corporate business park, and an industrial property, prompted the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the rural intersection of County H and Bain Station Road in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. The single-lane roundabout provides increased efficiency and improved safety for the growing traffic in this rapidly developing area.
The roundabout was designed within a tight timeframe for $95,000 and was built for $1,063,000, which was just under the engineer’s construction estimate of $1,150,000. On-road bicycle accommodations were installed within the project limits to allow future adjoining projects to continue bicycle accommodations, thereby meeting Kenosha County Comprehensive Bike Plan recommendations. Multi-use paths were constructed in each corner of the roundabout to allow for the future addition of a bike trail along the locally owned Bain Station Road.
Construction included street lighting throughout the roundabout, extending an additional 1,000 feet to connect with local street lighting installed as part of recent development.
