Project Overview
Hotel Verdant, offering panoramic views of Lake Michigan, is Racine, Wisconsin’s most recent addition to its downtown hospitality landscape. The site design team at raSmith collaborated with The Kubala Washatko Architects on the renovation of this historic building into a new boutique hotel.
The former department store, once considered for conversion into a children’s museum, was instead transformed into a stylish boutique hotel. The redevelopment of this historic building includes a first-floor restaurant and coffee shop adjacent to the lobby. Additional amenities include a cafe, green roof with deck and a bar space, fitness center, guest bicycles for local exploration, and meeting/banquet facilities. There is also an array of solar panels on the roof that provide green energy to the hotel. Hotel Verdant is currently in the process of pursuing LEED Gold certification.
The site design included the renovation of the main entry plaza with brick pavers and new streetscape, landscape plantings, valet parking, and an outdoor dining area for the restaurant.
