Project Overview
Washington Elementary School in Wauwatosa is dedicated to providing an engaging learning environment for its students in grades PK-5. To further enhance the school grounds and student experience, the school district enlisted raSmith for several site improvement projects. raSmith provided surveying, site planning, site engineering design, structural engineering, landscape architecture, and construction administration services.
A key aspect of the project was consolidating the three separate playgrounds into a single area on the south side of the campus, complete with new play equipment and accessible synthetic turf. Additionally, the hardscape surfaces were reconfigured to improve accessibility from both N. 67th Street and N. 68th Street. Improvements were also made to the Garfield Avenue neighborhood greenway bike and pedestrian path, which runs along the north side of the school building. The project also included an outdoor learning area with amphitheater-style seating.
The landscaping on the site was upgraded, featuring new lannon stone walls, entrance plantings, a butterfly garden, a memorial tree, and additional trees along N. 67th Street and the northern edge of the property.
