Project Overview
A team of raSmith landscape architects and engineers worked with Galbraith Carnahan Architects (Wauwatosa) to develop a new County Parks & Rec office building along the western shore of White Mound Lake in Sauk County.
The building provides offices for park staff, a restroom and shower facilities for park and beach users, and a rentable space for events and gatherings overlooking the lake. Placing the building on the site was a collaborative process between Parks Director Matt Stieve and the entire design team. They worked together to accomplish the project goal of minimizing site disturbance while creating a beautiful setting that respected the existing large, sloped prairie and upland woods as the backdrop, and the beach and lake in the foreground. Several site elements were incorporated to capture roof water and improve site drainage through a series of alluvial dry stream beds and landscape features.
This project received a 2019 Park Design Award from the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association (WPRA).
